Launchpad is the hands-on creative outreach platform of DUCFS, bringing funding and student support directly to grassroots causes across the North East. We empower small, regional charity projects by delivering two vital resources: unrestricted financial funding and volunteer power.
Focusing specifically on our three core pillars: Community, Music, and Creative Arts, our student Launchpad Ambassadors work directly with local projects so they can launch, run, and thrive. While DUCFS drives large-scale fundraising, Launchpad is our direct line to the local community, turning creative energy into tangible regional change.
This year, we are proud to announce the Launchpad Ignition Grant, which enables Durham students to set up their own local projects. Students can apply for between £500 to £2,000 from Launchpad to kickstart a new initiative.
The Ignition grant
The DUCFS Launchpad Ignition Grant provides seed funding for Durham University students undertaking creative or charitable projects that further Launchpad's outreach mission. Priority lies with projects addressing needs in the North East community (deprivation, child poverty, school exclusion, community mental health, and refugee settlement) but the grant is also open to projects addressing needs within the Durham student community itself, where these reflect Launchpad's creative-philanthropic ethos.
Applications are open to all current Durham University students, including DUCFS ambassadors and models. You can apply as an established student group such as an SU society or College Outreach Committee or as an informal team. You can apply for between £500-£2000 to kickstart your initiative.

DJ School is a DUCFS x DJ Society initiative dedicated to providing young people from deprived communities access to the creative arts. Running across the Michaelmas and Epiphany terms, the project works with around 25 young people from Brandon and Durham City Youth. Alongside music production and DJing, Launchpad ambassadors and volunteers run games and develop relationships with the young people. Because high start-up costs often make DJing inaccessible to those from low-income backgrounds, this initiative offers student DJs a powerful way to use their skills for good and give back.

CATSSoffers respite for local children from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds, aged 7-13. This project provides day trips to children throughout the year, organised and led by students under the supervision of the volunteering team. It is Durham University’s oldest project at 30 years old and when they lost their main funding last year, Launchpad stepped in so they can continue their good work.

The Ambassador pROGRAMME
Every year, we bring on a team of student ambassadors to help run our grassroots programmes and spread the word about what we do. You’ll be paired with a specific project to represent Launchpad directly, getting stuck into volunteer work that makes a genuine difference. You’ll also get to join our wider events and help fundraise for DUCFS throughout the term.
If you want to see what our ambassadors are up to or keep an eye out for the next round of applications, head over to our Instagram. We post regular updates, event details, and behind-the-scenes looks at our projects.
