Launchpad Community works with several local community outreach groups on smaller projects. Already, we have run two successful food and clothing drives to support several homeless groups and refugee communities in the North East.
We cannot wait to develop these community acts and work with a wider range of charities within the future, involving the student body and members of the wider community.
City of Sanctuary
The City of Sanctuary is a grassroots charity that aims to create welcoming and inclusive communities for refugees and asylum seekers in cities and towns around the world. It operates on the principle that everyone, regardless of their background or immigration status, deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Cities of Sanctuary work to foster an environment where refugees and asylum seekers can rebuild their lives and find safety, support, and a sense of belonging. The City of Sanctuary movement represents a powerful expression of solidarity and a commitment to upholding human rights, diversity, and social cohesion.
In the 2023/24 academic year, Launchpad and the City of Sanctuary are teaming up to make a positive impact in Durham. A core initiative is the launch of Saturday creative workshops for refugee children, offering art, dance, fashion design, and cultural trips. The aim is to provide a safe, inclusive environment for these children to explore creativity, gain life skills, and discover the North East’s culture.
